Day #94 @ Photography Project 365

I remember that this tree looked exactly like this the same time last year! Just like then, it was decorated with colored egg-like ornaments for Easter.

In post-processing, boosting saturation helped bring out the bright colors in this photo.

Day #93 @ Photography Project 365

There is a garden close to our apartment where people can rent plots of land and well, have their own gardens there. This is a photo of one I found rather interesting.

The owner had obviously been working on his / her garden recently and had prepared it for the spring / summer. I'm no expert when it comes to flowers but I can quite confidently say that they are still small and the garden will look much better when they blossom.

I think the rooster looks pretty cool.

Day #92 @ Photography Project 365

The weather was pleasant today and I decided to take a walk in the nearby park. It is starting to get warmer outside and it sure feels like spring in setting in.

What better way to "capture" spring than with a photo of wild flowers. The sun rays added a glow to the flowers making them even more striking.

Day #91 @ Photography Project 365

My wife made some lovely bread for Easter! Unfortunately, this photo doesn't do it justice.

Food can indeed be an interesting subject for photography. I've never really delved into it though. Perhaps I should...

Day #90 @ Photography Project 365

We have a lovely bouquet of flowers sitting on our window sill. I've never really been one who enjoys taking photos of flowers but I have to say that I'm pretty happy with this one here.

However, if I were to take this shot again, I'd probably elevate the flowers a bit to get rid of the horizon in the background. I would then have the colorful flowers set against a clean, white background. I should have thought about it then. But then again, I have many more days to come for my Project 365.

Day #89 @ Photography Project 365

Today's one of those days when we have a great view of the Alps from our apartment. So, I decided that it would be my object of photography for the day.

This panorama wasn't stitched together from a set of several photos but was basically cropped from a single shot. Call it the lazy man's trick to creating panoramas. I had to boost contrast a bit in post-processing to make the mountains come out a bit more.

Day #88 @ Photography Project 365

I got a set of suitcases from Lufthansa using my miles that were due to expire. I did actually need at least a small one since the one that I have is a little broken. I was pleasantly surprised with the bags when they arrived. They looked pretty good and felt robust enough.

Anyway, I love taking shots from low angles. It makes an otherwise simple photo a little more dramatic. I also angled it a little when cropping to give it a feel of motion.

Day #87 @ Photography Project 365

This is probably the photo with the most prominent Bokeh that I have. I took this shot with my Nikon AF-S f1.8, which is a lovely lens. I used an aperture of f2.0 here.

By the way, this is a photo of our new shower tap. Our water heater failed on us a few days ago and we got the plumber to come over. He fixed the heater and decided he might as well change the tap as well. Fortunately, we're renting this apartment and the cost was borne by our land lord.

Day #86 @ Photography Project 365

For my previous photo of the day, I used the warming flash filter. For this one, I used the cooling filter instead.

If your camera's white balance is set to Auto, it will have the tendency to offset the effects of your flash filter. In order to see the full effect of the filter, you should set the white balance to daylight, which essentially means that the camera will not compensate.

Day #85 @ Photography Project 365

Ok, a beer bottle isn't the most exciting object for photography. The content is without a doubt useful, but not really for photography. Unless of course, you're attempting some new-age photography style entitled "through the eyes of the intoxicated" or so.

Anyway, back to the photo. This shot was taken with a colored flash filter. I got a set of three for free when I purchased a copy of Digital Photo magazine recently. I used a warming filter which as its name describes, adds warmth to a photo.

This is actually the first time I'm using such filters and I have to say that I'm happy with the results so far. Looking forward to using them more in the future.

Day #84 @ Photography Project 365

If I were to give this photo a name, I'd call it "Road to Heaven". Very cliché? I know. But that name does indeed capture the essence of this photo or at least what I was trying to accomplish in post-processing.

As my wife and I were walking through the woods today, I noticed a "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak. I composed the shot to get a little bit more of the path and tried to conceal as much of the opening in the trees above as possible. In post-processing, I increased the contrast and exposure a lot, and boosted saturation a bit.

joel@shutteria.com

Day #83 @ Photography Project 365

This is one of those few times that I actually took a photo of the sky. In contrast to days with cloudless skies and those where you don't see the sky, days like these are indeed more fulfilling for photography.

The original, unprocessed photo does not look nearly as dramatic as this final image though. In post-processing, I pushed up the blacks, contrast, exposure and saturation. The result: a nice shot of the heavens.

joel@shutteria.com

Day #82 @ Photography Project 365

I have to say that I'm really happy with this shot! This is a photo of the pier by Ammersee (Lake Ammer). The weather was great for the first half of today when I took this photo. It's not often that I've been able to capture some really nice cloud formations in my photos. This is one of those rare times and my lucky day.

The lines created by the planks on the pier really do lead the eyes into the image. I really do like such compositions.

Day #81 @ Photography Project 365

My wife and I had a day off today and we decided to make a day trip to the Andechs Monastery. Not that we were planning a pilgrimage of some sort, but Andechs is famous for its dark "Doppelbock" beer. Yes, you heard me right. Apparently, the monks used to (and probably still do) brew this strong beer for the fasting season as a means of satisfying their hunger. I don't know how effective the beer is at eradicating hunger but it sure does a fine job of lifting the spirits.

This is a photo of a train (or better known as "S-bahn") passing the platform we were waiting at. I used a slower shutter speed and angled the shot to emphasize the motion. In post-processing, I bumped up the exposure and saturation. Increasing the exposure has washed out some of the bright spots in the photo and this in turn has helped emphasize the object - the train.

Day #80 @ Photography Project 365

This is one of my Mission speakers - I have a pair of them. I brought them along when I relocated to Munich.

Day #79 @ Photography Project 365

I always try to buy some photography magazines when I'm in the UK. There is indeed a large variety available there. Of course, my main reason for doing so is that the magazines are in English whereas the ones back home are in German.

Day #78 @ Photography Project 365

My colleagues and I decided to spend the second night of our business trip in London instead of Bristol. This would allow us to catch the morning flight from Heathrow back to our home bases respectively. So, we stayed in Holiday Inn.

This is a view of London as seen from my apartment.

Day #77 @ Photography Project 365

I'm in Bristol, UK on business today. I've visited Bristol a couple of times before on business as well and have always found it very pleasant. Here's the link to my previous blog post on Bristol.

Day #76 @ Photography Project 365

The BILLY bookshelf has got to be one of IKEA's hottest selling products. It can be very well paired with their BENNO CD rack, which is shown here.

My wife and I were wondering if we actually needed two BENNO CD racks or only one. We finally decided to settle for two. Not surprisingly, there was quite a bit of space left. So, we decided to place some deco on the shelves, in between CD's. In this photo, you see our ceramic sheep and puppy, which were both given as presents.

I find the lines in this shot rather interesting - mostly horizontal and vertical but also a few diagonal lines (leaning CD's). I boosted saturation in post processing to bring out the colors of the CDs.

Day #75 @ Photography Project 365

As you can probably guess, I'm running out of ideas for my photo-of-the-day project. Anyway, I decided to capture the weather forecast for the coming week as displayed on my iPod. In post-processing I applied a "cooling" preset to give it a bluish tone.

By the way, I find long-term weather forecasts extremely unreliable here in Munich. And by long-term, I mean anything more than a couple of hours!

Books do indeed make great objects for photography. This is my shelf of business-related books. I was able to demonstrate the narrow depth of field pretty well here. In post-processing, I used a default Lightroom preset to make the shot more punchy.

We opened a bottle of Bordeaux today - the Aldi variety (for those of you who don't know Aldi, it's a "budget" grocery store).

This photo looked very regular with all the colors intact. However, once I reduced the saturation, it really started coming out. The reduced saturation gives the wine a vintage look.
